Retaining Walls and Grading

Put something here maybe.

A professional patio is only as good as the ground around it. Whether we are grading your site before the project starts or building structural walls to finish a newly installed pool area, we make sure your backyard is level, functional, and drains exactly where it should.

The Process

Wall Foundation and Base

Even for smaller landscape walls, the base is the most important step. We excavate a dedicated trench and install a compacted stone leveling pad. This ensures the wall stays straight and doesn’t “roll” or lean as the ground settles around your new patio.

Structural Stacking

We utilize a calculated stagger-back method for any wall over four courses. This shift in the center of gravity allows the wall to naturally resist the pressure of the soil behind it. We offer various block options to match your existing masonry or provide a clean, modern contrast.

Strategic Backfill and Drainage

Every wall we build includes a “drainage chimney”—a layer of 3/4” clean stone and perforated pipe behind the blocks. This prevents water weight from building up behind the wall, which is the primary cause of wall failure in New Jersey.

Final Grading

Once the wall is set, we grade the surrounding soil to meet the new heights of your patio or pool deck. We use transit levels to ensure the final “pitch” of your lawn directs water away from your new investment and toward proper runoff areas.

Design and Material

Segmental Wall Blocks

Our most popular choice for modern backyards. These come in a variety of textures and “weathered” looks from brands like Cambridge and Techo-Bloc. They are engineered for strength and offer a clean, consistent finish.

Natural Stone Veneer

If you desire a coastal or natural stone look, we can finish structural walls with natural stone veneer. This is the best way to match existing masonry or the stone accents on your house.

Color Matching

We help you select tones that coordinate with your pool coping or patio pavers. Whether you want a seamless match or a bold contrast, we make sure the final look is intentional.
